At the time of writing, you can’t play Phasmophobia on PS5 or PS4. However, the console release is due to land in October 2024.

Phasomphobia first debuted via Steam to PC players in late 2020, where it garnered the bulk of its reputation and proved itself to be an addictingly fun horror title for players of all walks. While every bit as creepy, with cursed ghosts able to hunt and potentially kill players who linger too long or make the wrong moves, the game still helped make the genre more accessible with its multiplayer feature, allowing friends to co-operatively investigate hauntings.

Its steadfast popularity saw people yearning to play the game on consoles as well. The team at Kinetic Games has been working exceptionally hard to make that wish a reality. It was formally announced last year that Phasmophobia would indeed be coming to both Xbox and PlayStation, along with a trailer (seen below) showcasing what players could expect with a console experience.

However, despite its initial release window of August 2023, unforeseen circumstances pushed the launch back repeatedly for both consoles. Phasmophobia is not expected to arrive on PlayStation 5 until later this year, supposedly in the Fall of 2024. This prediction is based on the 2024 Roadmap that Kinetic Games recently provided, and a new dev blog on the Steam page.

Among the reasons was an unfortunate office fire at Kinetic Games that caused significant setbacks. Along with overcoming that, the team is hyperfocused on fine-tuning the game’s performance for consoles. Given the game’s intricate use of AI tech for its ghost mechanics and whatnot, it’s clearly a delicate process. The developers have also said that they’re having to rework certain maps specifically for consoles. Also, those on Xbox and PS5 will start off with an abundance of unique content.

That concludes our guide that answers whether Phasmophobia is available on PS4 and PS5. For more on the game, take a look at our guide on how to use the Spirit Box. We’ve also got a guide answering whether Phasmophobia is cross platform.
