If you want to seriously improve your Minecraft experience by upgrading its graphical detail, look no further. Installing the OptiFine Patch 1.12.1 for Minecraft 1.6.2 or newer will give your blocks a whole lot more pretty finesse for you to show off to all your friends. A boost to frame rate, dynamic lighting, HD texture support, variable render distances, fog control, and more await you alongside improved PC performance while playing the game, too.

There are two methods for installing OptiFine 1.12.1 on your copy of Minecraft. We’ll go over both an easy and a complex means of installation just in case you run into unexpected technical difficulties with the first method.

The Easy Way

The simple way to get Optifine running would be to take a visit here and download version HD U C7 (the first option). If this triggers a security warning by your computer, don’t be alarmed. We’ve used this website ourselves and can verify that it does no harm. Once your download is complete, open your JAR file via your computer download folder (or whatever folder you keep your internet downloads in).

This should produce you with a folder that contains one item labeled “OptiFine 1.12.1.” Click on it and a wizard will give you the option to install the program, so go ahead and click “Install.”

Optifine should then be downloaded straight into the official Minecraft launcher with its own profile appropriately labeled “Optifine.” From here you can access your copy of Minecraft normally and start playing the patch right away.

The Hard Way

If the above method doesn’t work, have no fear. A more complex means of installing OptiFine is available via Forge, which you can download right here. You’ll need to at least have the items produced from the JAR file above in order for this method to work.

Once Forge is downloaded, go into its files and search for the “Minecraft” base folder. From here, go to the “Versions” sub-folder then click on “Forge9.10.X.Y” after that. Copy and paste the files from JAR file you downloaded into this sub-folder and remove the META-INF folder.

Now start Forge’s official launcher and select the “Forge” profile. Click “Edit Profile”, check the box labeled “JVM Arguments,” and add the following text in the field next to it: “-Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true.” Don’t forget to save!

Once you’ve done all the above, click “Play” and OptiFine 1.12.1 should be up and running in Minecraft. For more guides on the game, don’t forget to search for Twinfinite!
