If plants could talk...

In our experience, the most reliable Baldur’s Gate 3 Tongue of Madness location is the Arcane Tower.

Located in the southwest corner of the Underdark area, this tower contains several rare alchemic ingredients due to the fact that it’s the home of a prominent alchemist. Omeluum’s colleague Blurg mentions the area when you initially accept the quest, but doesn’t give an exact location to find them.

Samples of the plant can be found in the Tower’s garden area outside its generator room, on the second floor, and down in the basement. The basement samples are easier to spot when you trigger the highlight interactable items function via the left Alt key on PC or R3 and RS on Consoles, so use the mechanic as necessary.

To reach the basement, combine a Sussur Blossom with the tower’s generator to repair the elevator. Then, head to the top floor and deal with the guard robots either through dialogue or combat. after that, look for the Guiding Light ring on a nearby desk. Equip it, and then head back to the elevator to reveal a switch that takes you down to the basement.

Once you’re in the basement, look for the alchemic samples to the right of the stairs. There are three Tongue of Madness plants you can harvest.

Are There Other Tongue of Madness Samples Outside of the Arcane Tower?

It should be noted, however, that you can reduce these samples into alchemic ingredients if you aren’t careful.

If this occurs, then you can find other samples of the material for sale from Arron in Emerald Grove and Omeluum’s colleague Blurg. Both only carry the plant rarely though, and if they don’t have it in stock, you need to take a long rest to reset their available wares. Repeat the process however many times it takes before they have what you need.

Can You Get Tongue of Madness After Act 1? Explained

Finally, we wanted to note that you can give Omeluum some Tongue of Madness after you leave Act 1 and enter the lands afflicted by the Shadow Curse.

However, there is a cost to this course of action. if you return to the areas from Act 1 after you start Act 2, then certain Act 2 quests can become locked off to you. Most notably, Halsin’s companion quest is marked as failed and there is no way to redo it unless you load a save file.

This is also based on the current version of the game. It’s possible new versions of the game won’t allow you to complete Omeluum’s quest after Act 1, and that a given update can make it impossible to return to the friendly Mind Flayer.

Keep this in mind, and try to time your delivery of Tongue of Madness and Tiamask Spores to him accordingly.
