Nintendo Direct June 2024 Live Blog – All Announcements and Reveals

Directly from Nintendo, to us, to you!

The Nintendo Direct is Nintendo’s main outlet for video game news. As a result, we can hope to see a wave of new announcements and trailers from first-party and third-party game studios coming to the Switch. Here’s our Nintendo Direct June 2024 live blog. Nintendo has already detailed that there will be no mention of their next hardware generation. The software focus will also be on Nintendo Switch titles coming in the second half of 2024.

How to Watch the June 2024 Nintendo Direct

The Nintendo Direct will start broadcasting on June 18, 2024.

Gamers can tune in to the live stream at 10 AM ET, with the stream expected to last roughly 40 minutes.

The broadcast can be viewed on Nintendo’s own website and its Twitch channel. It can also be viewed on any of the regional variants of their YouTube channel (Nintendo of America, Nintendo UK, Nintendo España etc.)

We’ll list all announcements and reveals below, as and when they happen.

Mario & Luigi Brothership on Switch

We cold open on the announcement of a new Mario & Luigi role-playing game for the Switch.

The title is a new game in the franchise, which has seen its fair share of remakes for the Nintendo 3DS handheld Nintendo system since its 2003 original.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition

We get another look at the already announced Nintendo World Championships game. This showcase focuses on the online aspects of the title, and reiterated its release date of releasing this year.

Fairy Tail 2

Developed by Koei Techmo, this turn-based action-RPG is based on the hit anime of the same series.

Fantasian Neo Dimension

A new role-playing game from Square Enix, with open-world and monster-collecting aspects.

Nintendo Switch Sports Basketball Update

The 2022 spiritual successor to the Wii pack-in title receives an update bringing with it the new sport of Basketball.

Update launching this Summer.

Mio: Memories in Orbit

This watercolour platformer is a fluid platformed with a heavy Metroidvania heritage from Focus Entertainment.

Cartoon Showcase Reel

A showcase reel shows off an array of cartoon titles:

An update for Disney Illusion Island, focusing on the detective abilities of its new character – launching later today.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure, a cozy game using the Hello Kitty license, releasing in 2025.

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports – an action sports title by Gamemill Entertainment – releasingthis Autumn.

Among Us Imposter and Crewmade Update

New roles as the Tracker and Noisemaker Crewmate roles and the Phantom Imposter launch later today.

Farmagia

A monster-raising army-builder from Marvelous Europe.

Joined with farming elements, it certainly appears to pack a lot into its gameplay cycle.

Launches November 1st, this year.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Joining Nintendo’s 2018 port of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, this Wii title jumps onto Switch.

Containing the new levels released in the Nintendo 3DS version, this port releases on Nintendo Switch January 16th next year.

Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake

A remake of the beloved third Dragon Quest title is coming to Switch.

It is proudly using the 2D-HD style, popularised by the Octopath Traveller series.

Releasing November 14th, this year.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remakes

Using the same engine, remakes of the first two games in the trilogy were also announced.

Releasing in 2025.

Funko Fusion

Developed by 10:10 Games, this game based on the Funko Pop! figures carries over a multitude of licences.

From He-Man to Jurassic Park, this 3rd-peson action adventure is releasing September 13th, this year.

Spooky, Silly, Strategic Showcase Reel

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD – Releasing 27.06.2024

The New Denpa Men – a peculiar, cartoony free-to-play RPG from Genius Sonority. Releasing 22.07.2024

Metal Slug Attack Reloaded – a tower-defence game in the Metal Slug series. Developed by SNK, releasing later today.

Darkest Dungeon II – the long-awaited sequel to this cult classic RPG title. Developed by Red Hook Studios, a Switch port releases 15th July, this year.

Nintendo Switch Online Classic Titles Added

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Four Swords – originally on Game Boy Advance

Metroid: Zero Mission – originally on Game Boy Advance

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter – originally on Nintendo 64 (mature title)

Perfect Dark – originally on Nintendo 64, now owned by Microsoft (mature title)

All titles available later today.

Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

A chibi turn-based sequel in the Phantom Brave series, by Nippon Ichi Software.

Collect phantoms and combine them with items in the environment for unique results!

Releasing in 2025

Marvel vs Camcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

From beat ’em ups to classic fighters, this collection showcases a variety of titles from the franchise.

Releasing this year

Super Mario Party Jamboree

The latest title in the Mario Party series, this title showcases new additions like more dynamic boards and dice.

Adding five new boards, and two old favourites, this title releases October 17th, this year.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

An original title created in a similar style to Nintendo’s remake of Links Awakening. This title showcases increased movement and combat from the faithful remake.

Also shown is the inclusion of the protagonist – a playable Princess Zelda – after Link goes missing.

Using the ‘Tri Rod’ Zelda can copy the ‘echoes’ of items she has found.

Placing these items, Zelda can interact with the environment in multiple different ways! Echoes can also be made of enemies, to fight on your side.

Releasing September 26th, this year.

Nintendo Switch Lite: Hyrule Edition

Clearly designed in reference to the limited-edition 3DS of the same name, this console variant is launching seperately alongside the release of the title.

Just Dance 2025 Edition

Containg 40 new tracks for players to dance to, this latest installment in the long-running series also contains a difficulty setting – seemingly a first for the series.

LEGO Horizon Adventures

Developed by PlayStation, we see further footage of this title from its announcement at Summer Game Fest.

Playing similarly to LEGO’s other action-puzzle family titles, this title is also playable in local/online co-op.

Releasing Winter, this year.

Stray

Everyone’s favourite future-world cat title comes to Nintendo Switch.

Developed by Annapurna Interactive, the footage shown seems to present the title as a very functional port of the game.

Tales of the Shire

Based on JRR Tolkien’s series of books, and the highly-successful films, this title is as cozy as a ‘cozy game’ can get. With character interaction, cooking and farming elements, it’s a low-tempo title for the Switch.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection

Containing new hand-drawn visuals and the original style should players want them, this collection of two side-adventures in the court-room detective game series releases September 6th, this year.

The Hundred Line Last Defence Academy

This anime-inspired visual novel / turn based strategy title releases early 2025.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

A remake of the beloved Square Enix title is coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Featuring turn-based combat and branching narratives, this title releases October 24th, 2024.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After its initial announcement in 2017, and restarted development in 2019, we now have our first look at the latest Metroid Prime title.

Showcasing intense graphical prowess for the Nintendo Switch, alongside a name-change, this title is releasing in 2025.

It’s not clear as to if this will be available on the Nintendo Switch, or be an exclusive to Nintendo’s next-generation system.

We will most likely see more from this title in particular at the hardware reveal, which is airing some time within this financial year.
